My son wouldn’t stop crying for almost two hours, even though I had fed him, changed his diaper, carried him in my arms, tried to put him to sleep, and no longer knew what else to do. But when I finally took off all his clothes, I saw something that literally made my hands go cold 😨
That evening, everything started completely normally.
My son was eight months old. Usually, before bedtime, I would feed him, carry him in my arms for a little while, then put him in his crib, and after a few minutes he would calm down.
But that day, everything was different. At first, he simply started getting fussy. I thought he was tired because he had barely slept during the day.
I picked him up, held him close to me, and started slowly walking around the room.
— It’s okay, Mommy is here, — I said softly.
Usually, my voice helped almost immediately, but the baby kept crying. After a few minutes, the crying became even more intense.
I checked his diaper — it was clean. I offered him milk — he took a few sips and turned away. I touched his forehead — he didn’t have a fever. I checked his stomach and gently massaged it, thinking that maybe he was suffering from gas.
Nothing helped. Sometimes he would calm down a little, but a few seconds later he would start screaming again.
I was already beginning to panic.
The scariest thing in moments like this is that such a small child cannot tell you exactly where it hurts. You look at him and simply go through dozens of possible reasons in your head.
Maybe his stomach? His teeth? Tiredness? Is he too hot? Too cold?
I even completely undressed him, leaving only his T-shirt and diaper on, so I could check his skin.
There was nothing on his back. Nothing on his stomach either. His arms looked normal. Then I dressed him again.
Almost another hour passed. My son had already gone hoarse from crying, and I was ready to start crying along with him.
At one point, I laid him on the bed and decided to check everything again from the beginning, literally every inch of his body.
And when I finally took off his socks, I literally froze in horror. Now I’m sharing my story so other parents will know that something LIKE THIS can happen too 😰😢 I shared the rest of my story in the first comment 👇👇
That was when I noticed something strange.
One little leg looked slightly more swollen than the other. At first, I thought I was just imagining it.
I carefully touched his foot, and the baby immediately started crying even harder. That was when I looked closely at his foot for the first time.
I quickly took off the sock and froze. One of his toes was red and badly swollen.
Wrapped around it, almost invisible, was a long, thin hair. My hair.
It had tightened so much that it had literally dug into the baby’s delicate skin. The hair was so thin that at first I couldn’t even understand what I was looking at. It almost blended into the skin.
I felt terribly guilty. I had checked my son several times, undressed him, touched his stomach, looked at his hands, but for some reason I had never even thought to take off his socks.
They seemed soft to me, and I thought there was no way they could cause him pain.
I carefully tried to remove the hair, but it was wrapped too tightly. I was afraid of making things even worse, so I immediately called my husband, and together we carefully freed the toe.
After a while, my son began to calm down.
He was still sobbing, but that terrible nonstop crying had finally stopped.
I sat beside him, looking at his small swollen foot, unable to believe that the cause of two hours of suffering had been a single ordinary hair.
Later, I learned that this really can happen to babies. A hair can accidentally get into a sock or piece of clothing, wrap itself around a toe, and gradually tighten more and more.
