Two hours before the wedding, my mother-in-law deliberately ruined my wedding dress and then pretended it had all happened by accident. But she could never have imagined that just a few hours later, she herself would not be allowed into her own son’s wedding 😳
There were about two hours left before the ceremony. I was sitting in front of the mirror in the hotel room while the makeup artist touched up my makeup and the hairstylist secured the last strands of my hair.
I was hardly nervous at all. On the contrary, it felt like everything was finally coming together exactly the way I had always dreamed.
When the girls finished, I walked over to the wedding dress.
It was hanging near the wardrobe, and for a few seconds I simply stood there looking at it. I had spent months choosing that dress, gone to several fittings, and even turned down another option, even though it was cheaper.
I wanted my future husband to see me for the first time in that exact dress.
I was just about to change when the door to the room suddenly opened. My future mother-in-law, Regina, appeared in the doorway.
She was holding a small handbag in one hand and a glass of red wine in the other.
I immediately tensed up.
“Are you still not ready?” she asked irritably. “My son doesn’t like to wait, so hurry up.”
I didn’t answer her.
Over the past few months, I had realized that arguing with Regina was pointless. No answer I gave her was ever enough, so I simply bent down and started carefully straightening the hem of the dress.
At that moment, I felt something cold land on my hand.
Almost immediately, a dark red liquid began running down the white fabric.
“Oh,” I heard.
I sharply raised my head. Regina was standing next to me with an empty glass.
But that wasn’t even what shocked me the most. She was smiling. Only for a second, before quickly putting on a frightened expression.
“I’m sorry, it was an accident,” she said. “My hand slipped.”
I looked back and forth between her and the huge red stain in the middle of the dress. The wine had soaked into the fabric almost instantly. I grabbed the dress and ran to the bathroom. Tissues, water, towels — I tried everything I could find.
But it only got worse.
The red stain kept spreading across the white fabric, leaving pink streaks behind.
Regina watched me from the doorway for several minutes and then calmly said:
“You’ll probably have to wear something else. Or postpone the wedding.”
That was when I finally understood that there had been no accident. She had done it on purpose.
Regina had hated me almost from the first day we met. At first, she told her son that I wasn’t right for him. Then she told relatives that I was supposedly marrying him for his money. Several times, she deliberately caused arguments before our meetings and constantly tried to convince him to postpone the wedding.
But the ruined dress was the final straw. My mother-in-law still had no idea what I was going to do in return 😰😨 The rest of the story can be found in the first comment 👇👇
I locked myself in the bathroom and cried for the first time that day. Ten minutes later, I washed my face, fixed my makeup, and took out my second dress.
I had only planned to wear it in the evening at the reception. It was much simpler and looked nothing like the wedding dress I had dreamed of.
But I had no intention of canceling the wedding. While my friend helped me change, I picked up my phone and made one call.
I called a security company. Half an hour later, two men were already standing at the entrance to the restaurant, and I had shown them a photo of Regina in advance.
The instruction was very simple. She was not to be allowed inside.
When we arrived, the guests were already gathering in the hall. Regina appeared about twenty minutes later.
At first, she didn’t even understand why the security guard blocked her path.
“Do you know who I am?” she asked indignantly. “I’m the groom’s mother.”
“We know,” the man replied calmly. “But we were asked not to let you in.”
Regina caused a huge scene.
She started demanding to see my fiancé, shouting that I had lost my mind, and promising that after the wedding, he would definitely deal with me.
Then my fiancé himself came outside to speak to her.
I was standing a little farther away and saw Regina’s expression change instantly.
She clearly expected her son to force security to let her inside.
But he looked at her and calmly said:
“Mom, this time you really crossed every line. If you don’t like my woman, there’s no point in you staying here. Otherwise, the wedding cake might also somehow get ruined ‘by accident.’”
Regina just stared at him for several seconds. She clearly couldn’t believe that her own son was saying this to her. Then she looked over at me.
It was probably only then that she realized she hadn’t ruined my wedding. She had simply managed to make her son take someone else’s side instead of hers for the first time in many years.
