Every evening before bed, my mother-in-law brought me a glass of warm milk and insisted that I drink every last drop

Every evening before bed, my mother-in-law brought me a glass of warm milk and insisted that I drink every last drop. I thought it was simply a caring gesture until one day I accidentally saw what she was putting into my glass before entering the bedroom 😨

My husband and I had only recently gotten married, and at first we lived in his parents’ house. In the beginning, I had a good relationship with my mother-in-law.

She constantly repeated:

— You’re my daughter now too.

And in the evenings, for some reason, she took especially good care of me.

At around ten o’clock, she would come into our bedroom with a glass of warm milk.

— Drink this before bed. You’ll sleep better.

I had never really liked milk, but I felt awkward refusing.

My mother-in-law would usually stand beside me and wait.

— Drink it all. Don’t leave any.

For the first few days, I didn’t notice anything strange.

But then I started to realize that something unusual happened to me after drinking that milk. I would fall asleep literally within twenty minutes. And I slept so deeply that sometimes in the morning I couldn’t even remember when my husband had come home from work and lain down beside me.

One day he even said in surprise:

— I tried to wake you yesterday. You didn’t react at all.

I laughed it off. I thought I was simply tired. But the same thing happened almost every evening. Then I started waking up with a heavy head.

I asked my husband about it, but he replied:

— I haven’t noticed anything strange. Don’t make things up.

One evening, everything changed. I was lying in bed reading a magazine when I heard my mother-in-law’s footsteps in the hallway. I already knew what was coming: she was about to bring me her milk again.

But this time, for some reason, she stopped near the door.

Then she turned around and went back to the kitchen. I became curious. Quietly, I got out of bed and followed her.

Only a small light above the stove was on in the kitchen. My mother-in-law was standing with her back to me. In front of her was that same glass of milk. And then I saw her pull a small box out of her pocket.

She opened it. Took out a pill. Crushed it with a spoon until it was almost powder. Then she poured the powder directly into my glass and stirred it thoroughly.

I felt a chill run through my entire body.

I managed to get back to the bedroom only a few seconds before the door opened.

My mother-in-law came in, smiling as usual.

— Here, drink it.

I took the glass. But for the first time, I didn’t take a single sip.

— I’ll wash up first.

— You can wash up later, — she suddenly said sharply. — The milk will get cold.

I looked straight into her eyes.

— I’ll drink it.

She stood there for another few seconds and then finally left.

I quickly poured the milk into the flowerpot near the window and lay down again.

Half an hour later, I turned off the light and pretended to be asleep.

About an hour passed. The house became quiet. My husband was working late that night.

And suddenly, the door to our bedroom opened very slowly.

I didn’t move.

My mother-in-law entered the room. When I realized why she had really come into our bedroom and what exactly she had been putting into my glass, I was horrified. That same day, I called the police and ran away from that house 😰😱 You can find the continuation of the story in the first comment 👇👇

My mother-in-law was not alone.

Standing beside her was a completely unfamiliar man of about forty-five. He was wearing a dark jacket and nervously looking around.

Everything inside me tightened.

My mother-in-law stepped closer to the bed, looked at me, and quietly said to the man:

— There, she’s asleep. Money first.

After those words, I could no longer stay still.

I suddenly sat up in bed.

— What is going on here?!

The man jumped back in surprise.

My mother-in-law turned pale.

— You… why aren’t you asleep?

— Who is this man?! What money are you talking about?!

I started screaming so loudly that even the neighbors probably heard me.

My mother-in-law tried to come closer.

— Calm down, you’ve misunderstood everything.

— Don’t come near me!

I grabbed my phone from the nightstand.

The stranger immediately headed for the door.

— I’m leaving. I’m not getting involved in this.

— Stop! — I shouted. — I’m calling the police!

My mother-in-law tried to snatch the phone from my hand, but I pushed her away and ran out of the bedroom into the hallway.

My hands were shaking so badly that I could barely dial the number.

A few minutes later, the police arrived at the house.

The man didn’t manage to escape. The officers detained him right near the front door.

And when I told them about the milk and the pills, one of the officers immediately took the glass and the box that my mother-in-law had not yet managed to hide.

To this day, I still don’t know exactly what she intended to do that night or why she needed that man, although I have terrible suspicions.

But one thing I understood for certain.

All those previous evenings too, when she stood beside my bed with a glass of milk and gently said, “Drink it, it’ll help you sleep,” were not acts of care at all.
