Kirk Douglas was ‘furious’ after wife banned him from pals trip due to ‘Strange feeling’ — she saved his life

Kirk Douglas and his wife Anne Buydens had been married for over 66 years before his death in 2020.

However, in 2017, the pair released the book “Kirk and Anne: Love Letters of Love, Laughter, and a Lifetime in Hollywood,” which examined their long-lasting marriage.

Douglas and Buydens met on the set of “Act of Love” in Paris.

Buydens was a film publicist, and Douglas was a well-known actor.

However, Buydens remembered their initial chat differently.

She stated that she was summoned to Douglas’ office, where he was seeking for a multilingual publicist.

Buydens was the ideal candidate since she spoke French, German, and English fluently.

When Douglas Buydens arrived to the workplace, called “the lion’s lair,” he invited Anne out to supper, but she declined, saying she would have scrambled eggs at home.

Therefore, the movie actress was surprised by the rejection.

But the film publicist knew precisely what she was doing at the moment.

Douglas eventually recruited Buydens as his publicist and stopped wooing her.

Their connection was strictly professional.

Douglas’ resolve not to impress his new publicist led him to stop talking about himself and listen to what Buydens had to say.

This realization made Buydens and Douglas feel more at ease with one another.

They began attending events together, one of which being a charity banquet hosted at a circus.

Buydens remembered Douglas diving into a melee and collecting an elephant dunk in a tuxedo.

It was a memorable occasion for the publicist to witness the movie star do something unexpected and amusing.
