To save her family and get rid of their debts, a girl from a poor family agreed to marry a man who lived far away from everyone, on the highest mountain: but she couldn’t even imagine what awaited her as soon as they arrived 😨😱
To save her family and pull them out of debt, a girl from a poor background agreed to the one thing she feared most — to marry a man about whom the most terrifying rumors were spreading in the village. People said he lived high up in the mountains, far from everyone, and that no one who went there ever came back.
Anna didn’t need much convincing — she simply saw no other way out. Once, her father had everything: a job, money, a house, a normal life. But everything collapsed in a single moment. He was fired, debts started piling up, they had to sell the furniture, then the house, then their last belongings. The stress was too much — her father had a heart attack and became paralyzed. Her mother worked from morning till night, but the money barely covered food.
That was exactly when he came to their house.
A black horse stopped by the old porch, and a man stepped out of the fog. Tall, silent, with a cold gaze. His name was Arthur. Everyone knew about him, but no one had ever seen him up close. They said that at eighteen, he had been cast out of his family after a terrible incident involving his sister. Some whispered that he had nearly taken her life. After that, he disappeared and settled somewhere in the mountains.
And then people began to disappear in the village.
Since then, they feared him. They called him a monster. They tried not to say his name out loud.
And now he stood at their door and calmly said he was ready to pay off all the family’s debts. Completely. But on one condition — their daughter would become his wife and leave with him forever.
Anna cried, begged her mother to refuse, said it was better to die in poverty than to live with a monster. But her mother looked at the paralyzed father, the empty walls, the debts… and agreed.
There was no wedding. Anna simply packed a few things, got on the horse behind Arthur, and they left.
The journey lasted many hours. The higher they went, the colder it became, the thicker the fog, and the tighter Anna’s heart clenched. She didn’t speak. He was silent too. Only the sound of hooves and the wind сопровождали their path.
When they finally arrived, Anna didn’t immediately understand what was happening or what she was seeing 😲😧 The continuation of the story can be found in the first comment 👇👇
In front of her, there was no abandoned house or frightening cave. In front of her was an entire world.
At the top of the mountain lay a real valley. Wooden houses, lights in the windows, people, children, laughter. Life was thriving there. People walked through the streets, worked, talked. Everything looked like a separate city, hidden from the rest of the world.
Anna was confused. She expected to see horror, but saw… peace.
Arthur looked at her differently for the first time. Not cold. Not distant.
He quietly said that everything people said about him was a lie. He was not the one responsible for that story. It was his own father who had done something terrible and placed the blame on him. People believed it, and he was cast out. He went to the mountains because he had nowhere else to go.
Then others began to come. First one person, then a family, then more. People who had been deceived, betrayed, or simply not accepted. They found him and stayed. Together, they built this place. There, no one judged and no one asked unnecessary questions.
There, people were happy.
Anna listened and couldn’t believe it. Everything she knew turned out to be false.
Arthur admitted that he had long wanted a family. A real one. With warmth, with trust. But he was afraid that if he revealed his world, those who would destroy everything would come. That’s why he had never told the truth to anyone.
And then he decided to take a risk.
He came for her.
Anna stood among these people and felt the fear slowly fade away. For the first time in a long time, she didn’t think about the debts, her father’s illness, or the hopelessness.
