A tragic accident on Thursday in Manitoba, Canada, claimed the lives of at least 15 people. A bus carrying elderly passengers collided violently with a truck at an intersection near Carberry, about 170 kilometers west of Winnipeg.
The passengers were headed to a regional casino. Rob Hill, Deputy Commander of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Manitoba, stated that “this collision resulted in the deaths of at least 15 victims.”
Ten other injured passengers were hospitalized. Authorities have yet to determine who was driving either vehicle involved in the collision. Photos from the scene show shattered wheelchairs and walkers scattered near bodies covered with tarps.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his heartfelt condolences to the grieving families and injured victims. Heather Stefanson, the Premier of Manitoba, also shared a message of support and solidarity.
This accident is among the deadliest in Canada’s recent history. A similar tragedy occurred in Saskatchewan in 2018, resulting in 16 fatalities. These incidents underscore the critical importance of maintaining vigilance and responsible driving to prevent such tragedies in the future.
