The doctor had already raised the syringe to give a pregnant woman an injection when a German Shepherd suddenly jumped onto his shoulder and began barking frantically. Marie was eight months pregnant when, one morning, she felt such intense pain that she could barely get out of bed. Her stomach suddenly tightened, and every passing minute became more unbearable. She immediately called an ambulance.
Her husband, David, wasn’t with her. He was away on a long business trip in another city and couldn’t return right away. The only one who had never left Marie’s side since the beginning of her pregnancy was their German Shepherd named Bruno. The dog seemed to sense everything that was happening to his owner. Every evening, Bruno lay beside her bed, and whenever the baby started moving, he would stare attentively at her belly while gently wagging his tail.
When the ambulance arrived, Bruno refused to let his owner go. He anxiously paced around the stretcher and whimpered sadly. One of the paramedics noticed and said:

A short time later, Marie was taken to the hospital. After examining her, the doctors decided to keep her under observation. At Marie’s request, the hospital staff allowed Bruno to stay beside her in the room for a short while. The dog lay quietly next to the bed, never taking his eyes off his owner. It seemed as though he had finally calmed down a little.
Some time later, the door opened, and one of the doctors walked into the room. He was carrying a tray with a syringe and medication.
At that exact moment, Bruno suddenly lifted his head.
His ears stood upright, his gaze became tense, and he slowly rose to his feet without taking his eyes off the doctor.
Marie looked at the dog in surprise.

But Bruno suddenly began barking.
At first briefly, then louder and louder, with increasing urgency.
Marie tried to calm him down.

But the dog seemed not to hear her at all.
He continued barking while carefully watching the doctor’s every move.
The doctor simply smiled.

The nurse quickly looked at the syringe and added in a trembling voice:
— This is a very powerful medication. It must never be given to a pregnant woman. It could have caused serious harm to the baby and put the mother’s life at risk.
The doctor slowly lowered his hand and turned pale.
For several seconds, no one said a word.
Marie felt a cold shiver run down her spine.
She looked at Bruno, who was now standing calmly beside her bed, watching her closely, as if he had made sure the danger had finally passed.
With tears in her eyes, she wrapped her arms around the dog’s neck.
