Many people considered Don Alejandro one of the cruelest men in the city.
He owned several large companies, was used to getting everything he wanted, and had no idea how to forgive those who deceived him. For the sake of business, Alejandro could destroy someone’s career, leave a competitor without money, or even turn his back on an old friend.
But more than anything else, the man hated betrayal.
Especially when it came from his wife, Sofia.
They had been married for seven years, and during all that time, Alejandro had considered his wife almost the only person he truly trusted.
But one evening, his friend Michael suddenly said:
— I didn’t want to interfere, but a few days ago I saw Sofia with a man.
Alejandro slowly placed his glass on the table.
— Where?
— Near a hotel. They were talking, and then they got into a car together.

He had seen neither kisses nor hugs and was not even sure that he had understood the situation correctly.
But for Alejandro, that was enough.

They could not find any photos, messages, or other evidence of an affair.

In the enormous hall of his house stood an aquarium that he had once ordered especially for his collection. Among the other fish was a school of red-bellied piranhas.
The employee who took care of the aquarium always warned that they had to be handled carefully.
And one evening, Alejandro called over two guards.
Sofia immediately understood that something terrible was happening when the men grabbed her by the arms.
— Alejandro, what are you doing?
Her husband silently pointed at the aquarium.
The woman turned pale.
— Have you lost your mind? I never did anything to you!
But the man’s face did not change at all.
— You had a chance to tell the truth.
The guards lifted Sofia up.

— Alejandro, please! I didn’t cheat on you!
For a few seconds, the man stood still, but then he turned away.

Everyone turned around. An elderly man stood in the doorway. He had been taking care of the aquarium for many years. He quickly approached the glass and helped the guards pull the drenched Sofia out.
Then he looked at Alejandro.
— These fish are not monsters that attack every person who falls into the water. You believed frightening stories instead of learning the truth.
But the real blow was still waiting for Alejandro. At that moment, the doors opened again. The very man Michael had seen standing beside Sofia entered the hall.
Alejandro recognized him immediately. It was Daniel, a private doctor who had treated his mother many years ago.
He placed a folder on the table. Sofia covered her face with her hands. There had been no affair.
