During her husband’s cremation, a woman heard three quiet knocks coming from the closed coffin and rushed toward the furnace at the last second; the employees assured her it was only the sound of wood, but when the lid was finally opened at the wife’s demand, even the experienced crematorium worker recoiled from what he saw 😱
Anna had lived with Michael for more than thirty years. During that time, they had been through everything: they started with almost no money, moved several times, raised their children together, and when the children grew up and moved away, they were alone for the first time in many years.
Michael had recently turned sixty-eight. He was still an active man, drove himself, worked in the garden, and almost never complained about his health.
That was why what happened that morning came as a real shock to Anna.
She woke up at around six and noticed that her husband was not beside her. The woman went downstairs and saw him lying near the sofa. Michael was unresponsive. Anna immediately called an ambulance.
The doctors tried for a long time to revive the man, but then one of them took the woman aside and told her that her husband had died.
According to the initial assessment, he had suffered cardiac arrest during the night. Anna could barely hear anything else they told her after that.
Just the night before, Michael had been sitting across from her in the kitchen, laughing and promising to make breakfast in the morning, and now he was gone.
The cremation was to take place two days later.
The children advised their mother not to attend the procedure itself, but Anna refused.
— I have been with him for thirty-two years. I will stay until the end.
After the farewell, the coffin was taken to a separate room. In front of the woman stood a large metal furnace. A fire was already burning inside.
A crematorium employee placed the coffin on the roller track and asked:
— Can we begin?
Anna approached her husband one last time, placed her hand on the lid, and whispered:
— Goodbye, my love.
Then she stepped back. The employee pressed a button. The coffin slowly began to move forward. Anna watched it through her tears when she suddenly heard a strange sound.
Knock. The woman raised her head. A few seconds later, the sound repeated. Knock. Knock. Anna froze.
— Stop.
The employee did not understand.
— What?
— Stop the coffin.
— Why?
— Someone is knocking inside.
The man listened, but heard nothing.
— It is the wood. Because of the temperature, materials can make similar sounds.
The coffin continued moving toward the fire.
She screamed:
— STOP!
The employee pressed the emergency button.
The coffin stopped almost in front of the furnace.
— Open it, the woman demanded.
— Ma’am, I understand how you feel, but your husband has officially been declared dead.
— Then you have nothing to be afraid of. Open it.
The employee tried to object, but Anna was already shouting and demanding that they call the manager. Finally, the coffin was pulled back.
Two employees approached it and began removing the fastenings. When they lifted the lid, one of the men suddenly stepped back. Anna looked inside and turned pale. 😰😱 You can find the continuation of the story in the first comment 👇👇
Michael was lying in the same suit he had been wearing when she said goodbye to him a few minutes earlier. But now one of his hands was right beside the lid. And there were fresh traces of blood on his fingers.
Anna leaned closer. At that moment, her husband’s chest rose almost imperceptibly.
— He is breathing!
The employee immediately called an ambulance.
Michael was taken to intensive care, and only several hours later were the doctors able to explain what had happened.
The day before his presumed death, the man had started taking a new medication. Combined with another drug, it caused an extremely rare reaction: his blood pressure and pulse had dropped so low that during the initial examination, his condition was mistakenly taken for death.
But the most surprising part was something else. Michael later said that he regained consciousness while already inside the coffin. At first, he did not understand where he was. There was complete darkness around him, and his body barely obeyed him.
He tried to scream, but could not make a sound. Then the man raised his hand and began knocking on the lid. He heard the noise of the mechanism and felt the coffin moving. Michael had already decided that no one would hear him. But Anna heard him.
A week later, the woman was sitting beside her husband again, but this time not next to a coffin, but in a hospital room.
