A glossy black head and fiery orange throat combine beautifully with yellow and green flecks to create one of the worlds most colorful birds

A glossy black head, brilliant orange neck and breast, and yellow and green specks combine to make one of the cloud forest’s most beautiful birds.

The orange-breasted fruiteater (Pipreola jucunda) is a Cotingidae family bird.

This species’ male has a glossy black head and green upper parts.

His throat and upper breast area are a bright orange, while his belly is yellow with green mottling along the sides.

The female appears to be relatively identical to the male, with some minor changes.

Her feet, for example, are black, while her eyes are paler.

This species is endemic to and lives on the foothills and slopes of the Andes Mountains in South America.

Its distribution extends from southwest Colombia to southwest Ecuador.

Orange-breasted fruit eaters eat mostly fruit, which they consume either perched on trees or hovering awkwardly in midair.

Little is known about this bird’s breeding habits, save that it builds a nest around 16 feet above ground.

Because of the Orange-bellied fruit eater’s very vast range and frequent observations, its population is assumed to be quite stable.
