I woke up in the morgue the morning after my own wedding and heard my wife demanding that the doctor have my body cremated immediately, without an autopsy. But when the man she called her cousin mentioned the missing wedding champagne glass, I realized that my death had been no accident. Soon afterward, I discovered a truth that made my blood run cold 😨😱

When I opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was a white ceiling and a bright lamp above my head. I was terribly cold, my body barely responded, and there was an unpleasant metallic taste in my mouth.

I tried to move and suddenly realized that I was lying completely naked beneath a white sheet on a metal table.

Beside me stood a trolley with medical instruments, and across from me were enormous refrigerated compartments.

I was in the morgue.

The night before, I had married the woman I considered the love of my life. We had met almost two years earlier, when she started working as an accountant at my construction company.

After a difficult divorce, I had struggled to trust anyone for a long time, but she seemed completely different. She took care of me, cooked dinner, and constantly told me that my money meant nothing to her.

A week before the wedding, she had even suggested signing a prenuptial agreement to prove that she wasn’t marrying me for my fortune.

I was so happy that I refused.

The last thing I remembered from the night before was our first wedding toast. My wife had personally brought me a glass of champagne, kissed me, and asked me to drink every last drop.

After a few sips, I felt dizzy, and then everything went blank.

Suddenly, I heard voices behind the door.

“I’m telling you for the third time that I want my husband cremated today! There will be no autopsy!” my wife said irritably.

“But the cause of death hasn’t been fully established,” an older man replied.

“The doctors said his heart stopped! What more do you need?”

I wanted to scream that I was alive, but just then the door opened.

A pathologist in a white coat entered the room, followed by my wife in her wedding dress and the man she had introduced to me a few months earlier as her cousin.

I managed to close my eyes before they reached the table.

“Why hasn’t he been prepared yet?” my wife asked.

“Because I was going to perform an additional examination,” the doctor replied calmly.

“No more examinations!” her cousin interrupted.

There was silence, and then my wife suddenly asked:

“Did you find the glass?”

“I checked the restaurant, but it had already been cleared away with the rest of the dishes.”

“Do you understand what will happen if the police find it?”

At those words, I almost cried out.

“Calm down. No one will suspect anything,” the man replied. “The important thing is that the body disappears today.”

“Fine. I hope this time it won’t be like it was with the other one…”

So there had already been another man before me, and perhaps he hadn’t survived. I was horrified as I realized what was really happening, but then something even more terrifying happened. 🤯😰 You can find the rest of the story in the first comment 👇👇

The doctor looked at them carefully, then suddenly approached me and touched my neck.

I felt his fingers and realized he was checking my pulse.

A second later, he abruptly pulled his hand away but said nothing.

“I need to prepare the paperwork. Please wait in the hallway,” he said.

When the door closed, the doctor leaned toward me.

“I know you’re alive. Don’t move. I’ve already called for help.”

It turned out that he had noticed something unusual about my condition during the night. My body temperature had been too high for a dead person, and that morning he had detected faint breathing. He suspected the effects of an unknown substance capable of severely suppressing consciousness and breathing.

The doctor had immediately called a resuscitation team and the police, then instructed me to keep pretending to be dead for a few more minutes.

The police arrived through the staff entrance, and soon afterward I was carefully taken out of the morgue and transferred to the hospital.

When I had fully regained consciousness, the investigator gave me some unexpected news.

A waiter who had worked at our wedding had kept the glass because he had noticed my wife adding something to my drink before the toast. Frightened, he had set the glass aside and told the restaurant manager everything.

But the most horrifying discovery was something else.

The man my wife called her cousin was actually her legal husband. Together, they chose wealthy, lonely men, gained their trust, and then tried to take possession of their assets.

Investigators discovered that several years earlier, another man my wife had been planning to marry had died under similar circumstances. At the time, his death had been ruled natural, and no one had suspected anything.

But I only learned why they were in such a hurry to get rid of my body after the documents were examined.

Three days before the wedding, my wife had brought me some papers that she claimed were needed to arrange a joint health insurance policy. I signed them without even reading them.

Among those papers was a power of attorney allowing her to control my bank accounts, along with a request naming her as the beneficiary of a substantial life insurance policy.

However, she had made one enormous mistake.

She didn’t know that the day before the wedding, I had received a notification from the bank about suspicious changes to my documents and had asked my lawyer to check everything.

My lawyer was already preparing a police report when he learned of my sudden death.

After her arrest, my wife continued to insist that she was innocent—until she was told that I was alive.

The investigator told me that she had gone pale, clutched the table, and immediately asked whether I had said anything yet.

When I left the hospital a few weeks later, I was shown footage from the restaurant’s security camera. It clearly showed my wife taking a small vial out of her handbag and secretly pouring its contents into my glass.

I watched that footage over and over, unable to believe that the woman who, just minutes later, had tearfully promised to love me for the rest of her life already knew that I was supposed to die that night.

But what shook me most was that, at that very moment, she was holding my hand, smiling at the guests, and gently stroking my wedding ring.

Now I understood why she had been looking at it so intently.

She was already imagining how soon she would become a wealthy widow.
