One day, my eight-year-old daughter told me that every night, when my husband and I were already lying in bed, a strange man entered our bedroom. At first, I thought she had simply dreamed something, but that same night I decided to stay awake and heard the bedroom door open and an unfamiliar man walk in 😨
My daughter Lisa is eight years old, and she has never liked making up scary stories.
If she dreamed something, she said so. If she was afraid of something, she came straight to me. That’s why her words immediately made me uneasy that morning, while she sat calmly at the table eating cereal.
— Mom, why does that man only come to your room at night?
At first, I didn’t even understand what she was talking about.
— What man?
Lisa looked up at me.
— The tall one. He comes when you’re already asleep.
I looked at my husband. He was standing by the coffee machine and seemed not to have heard anything.
— Have you seen him?
— Several times. He quietly opens your door and comes inside.
My blood ran cold.
I asked her what he looked like, but my daughter could only say that the man was tall, always wore dark clothes, and carried a small black case with him.
Then she added:
— He always goes to Dad’s side of the bed.
After that, I couldn’t simply forget our conversation.
All day long, I tried to find a reasonable explanation. Maybe Lisa had seen a shadow. Maybe she had confused a dream with reality.
But there was one problem. Over the past few weeks, my husband really had been acting strangely.
He had started going to bed earlier and constantly complained about being tired. On top of that, several times I noticed that he left the front door unlocked at night.
Whenever I asked him why, he just brushed it off.
— I probably forgot.
That evening, I didn’t say anything to him. We had dinner, put Lisa to bed, and around eleven we went to sleep ourselves.
— Are you going to read for a long time tonight too? — my husband asked.
— No, I’m tired.
I turned off the lamp. My husband fell asleep almost immediately. Twenty minutes later, his breathing became deep and steady.
I lay on my side, facing the wall, trying not to move at all.
An hour passed. Then a little more. I was already starting to think that maybe my daughter really had been mistaken when I heard a very faint sound.
The door handle moved.
The digital clock showed 1:13 a.m.
The door slowly opened. A man entered the room. The stranger was tall, around thirty years old, and wore a dark jacket. In his hand, he really was holding a narrow black case.
He closed the door and simply stood in the darkness for a few seconds. My heart was pounding so hard that I was afraid the man would hear it.
Then the stranger walked toward the bed. Toward my husband. He placed the case on the bedside table and opened it. I was already about to jump up when something happened that I absolutely did not expect.
My husband opened his eyes.
He hadn’t been asleep all this time either.
— Is she asleep? — the stranger asked quietly.
My husband looked directly at me and stayed silent for a few seconds.
Then he answered:
— Yes, yes.
My hands turned ice cold. What were they planning to do? A few seconds later, something happened that made me freeze in complete horror 😰😱 The rest of the story can be found in the first comment 👇👇
The stranger took a small flashlight out of the case and moved closer to my husband.
— Today is the final check, — he said. — If the result is confirmed again, tomorrow you’ll have to tell her everything.
I couldn’t lie still any longer. I suddenly switched on the lamp. Both men froze.
— Tell me what?
My husband went pale.
I was already about to grab my phone and call the police, but the stranger calmly raised his hands.
— I’m a doctor.
— A doctor who secretly enters someone else’s bedroom at one in the morning?
My husband sat up in bed.
And then he told me what he had been hiding from me for almost a month. A few weeks earlier, he had started waking up in completely different places around the house without remembering how he had gotten there.
One morning, he found himself in the garage. Another time, he woke up near the front door with the keys in his hand.
But the most frightening thing had happened two weeks earlier.
The camera in the hallway had recorded my husband entering Lisa’s room in the middle of the night and standing beside her bed for almost a full minute.
The next morning, he remembered nothing.
That was when he secretly contacted a sleep clinic.
My husband had been afraid to tell me because he thought I would take our daughter and leave.
For several nights, the doctor had come to our house and monitored my husband’s brain activity while he slept. In the case, he carried medication and equipment for sleep testing.
That was definitely not what I had expected.
