I slept with a stranger on my 62nd birthday, but the next morning I woke up alone and saw an envelope on the nightstand. What was inside made me regret that night 😳

That day, I turned sixty-two. I woke up early in the morning and the first thing I did was check my phone, expecting to see messages from my children, relatives, or at least some old friends.

But the screen was empty.

An hour passed, then another, lunchtime came, and still no one had remembered my birthday. My daughter was busy with her own family, my son lived in another city, and after my husband died, I had almost stopped seeing my friends.

I was sitting alone in the kitchen in front of a small cake I had bought for myself the day before when I suddenly realized that I didn’t want to spend that day at home.

I put on my favorite green dress, did my hair, took out a pair of earrings that had been lying in a jewelry box for years, and went into the city.

For at least one evening, I wanted to feel like an ordinary woman again, not a lonely pensioner.

Not far from the city center, I saw a small bar and decided to go inside. Calm music was playing, groups of people were sitting at the tables, and I chose a seat in the corner and ordered a glass of red wine.

That was where I noticed a man.

He looked about forty. He was well dressed, glanced in my direction several times, and then suddenly walked over to me.

“May I join you?”

I smiled ironically.

“If you don’t mind sitting with a woman who could easily be your mother.”

He laughed and sat down across from me.

His name was Daniel. He said he worked as a photographer, traveled a lot, and had only returned from a long trip the day before. We talked for almost two hours.

He asked questions, listened to my stories, and kept telling me that I didn’t look my age at all.

Maybe that was exactly what I had been missing.

At one point, I admitted that it was my birthday.

Daniel looked surprised, called the waiter over, and ordered a dessert with a candle.

“You shouldn’t end your birthday alone,” he said.

After leaving the bar, we walked around the city for a long time, and then he offered to walk me to the hotel where I had decided to stay for the night so I wouldn’t have to go home late.

What happened next was something I had no intention of telling anyone.

For the first time in many years, I allowed myself not to think about my age, my children, my neighbors, or what other people might say.

But in the morning, everything changed.

I woke up because of the bright sunlight and instinctively turned toward the other side of the bed.

Daniel was gone. At first, I thought he had gone out to get coffee, but his clothes were gone too.

Then I noticed a white envelope on the nightstand. When I opened it and saw what my new acquaintance had left inside, I deeply regretted that night. 😱😨 I told the rest of my story in the first comment 👇👇

Inside was a photograph. It was a picture of me.

I was asleep in bed, and the photo had clearly been taken during the night without my knowledge.

My hands started shaking.

On the back, there was a message:

“Thank you for the wonderful evening. Forgive me for what I did afterward. Soon you’ll understand everything.”

I read those words several times and immediately grabbed my phone.

Daniel didn’t answer.

Then I checked my handbag and saw that my wallet was still there. My money and bank cards were inside too.

I had almost convinced myself that I was simply panicking for no reason when I noticed something strange.

A small key was missing from the inner pocket.

It was the key to the safe in my apartment.

I had never told anyone about the safe except my children. Inside it were my mother’s jewelry, the documents for my apartment, and cash I had been saving for years.

I felt a chill run through my whole body.

But how could Daniel possibly know about the safe?

I immediately called a taxi and went home. When I reached my floor, the apartment door was locked. The lock looked untouched.

I opened the door and rushed into the bedroom.

The safe was empty. The money, the jewelry, and several important documents were gone.

I was just about to call the police when I saw another photograph on the table.

This time, Daniel was in it.

But standing next to him was someone I knew very well.

My own son.

The photograph had been taken several weeks earlier.

On the back, someone had written an address and a time: “Your son set all of this up.”

I stared at those words and couldn’t believe them.

The most terrifying part wasn’t even that a stranger had taken advantage of my loneliness and robbed me.

What was far worse was realizing that our meeting in the bar had probably never been a coincidence at all.

Daniel knew who I was before he even approached my table.

And that meant someone very close to me had helped him stage the entire thing.
