The billionaire started shouting at the young delivery woman because she was ten minutes late: “You penniless servants can’t even bring a simple meal on time! People like you have no brains at all. You probably can’t even read!” 😨 But the young woman calmly looked at him and did something that left the billionaire completely shocked 😱😳
The young woman had been working as a courier for almost two years. Every day, she delivered orders all over the city, climbed dozens of flights of stairs, sat in traffic, and listened to complaints from unhappy customers.
That day, she received an order from an expensive restaurant. The lunch had to be delivered to an enormous skyscraper where one of the richest men in the city had his office.
She arrived on time, but security took a long time checking her documents, then made her wait another ten minutes before allowing her to go up to the right floor.
When she finally entered the luxurious office, the billionaire was sitting behind a huge black desk, speaking irritably on the phone.
When he saw the young woman holding a paper bag, he threw his phone onto the desk.
“Are you kidding me? I ordered lunch almost an hour ago! Where have you been wandering around all this time?”
“I’m sorry. I arrived on time, but security held me up downstairs,” she replied calmly.
“I couldn’t care less about your pathetic excuses! I pay people like you to do their jobs, not make up stupid stories!”
She carefully placed the bag on the desk.
“Here’s your order. Enjoy your meal.”
But the man did not even look at the food.
“And that’s it? You think you can just turn up late, dump a bag on my desk, and leave? Look at yourself! A dirty jacket, cheap shoes, a huge bag on your back. You’ve probably never seen as much money in your entire life as I spend on a single lunch!”
She remained silent, trying not to show how much his words hurt her.
“Although what did I expect from you? You penniless servants can’t even handle a simple delivery properly. People like you have no brains whatsoever. You probably can’t even read properly!”
The billionaire laughed and leaned back in his leather chair.
“Tell me honestly, did you even finish school? Or did they refuse to let you in?”
She slowly took her hands off the bag and looked him straight in the eye.
“Are you really sure I can’t read?”
“Of course I’m sure!” the man laughed again. “If you had any brains at all, you wouldn’t be carrying other people’s food around for pennies!”
But at that very moment, the young woman did something that left the billionaire completely shocked 😳😱 The rest of the story is in the first comment 👇👇
“Then may I ask you one question?”
“Go ahead. Amaze me with your stupidity.”
“When I put the bag on your desk, I happened to notice the documents beside your hand. That’s a contract to purchase another company for forty-eight million dollars, correct?”
The billionaire stopped smiling.
“So what? Have you decided to show me you can read numbers?”
“No. It’s just that there’s a mistake in your documents that could cost you almost twelve million dollars.”
The man stared at her for a few seconds, then burst out laughing.
“Are you serious? A girl who delivers lunches is going to teach me how to do business? My accountants earn more in a month than you make in several years!”
“Then it’s very strange that they missed something so simple.”
The billionaire abruptly stopped laughing.
“Missed what?”
She pointed to the papers.
“Page four says you’re buying the company along with all its equipment, real estate, and inventory. But on page eleven, there’s an additional clause stating that all the real estate will be transferred to another firm one day before the deal closes.”
The billionaire frowned and quickly turned to the relevant page.
“Go on.”
“And look at that firm’s name. It’s almost identical to the name of the company you’re buying. Only one letter is different. If you aren’t reading carefully, you could easily miss it.”
The man pulled the papers closer.
“And what does that mean?”
“It means that after signing the contract, you’ll pay forty-eight million dollars, but you won’t receive the buildings and land that, according to the appendix, are worth almost twelve million.”
The billionaire snatched up his phone.
“Put me through to the chief legal officer! Immediately!”
While he waited for an answer, she continued:
“But that isn’t even the most serious mistake.”
The man slowly raised his eyes to her.
“What did you say?”
“The last page states that you assume all financial obligations of the acquired company, including those not disclosed in the main report.”
“That’s a standard clause,” the billionaire replied irritably.
“Yes, but usually there’s a cap on the amount and a specific list of liabilities. Your contract has neither. If the company turns out to have hidden debts, you’ll have to pay them.”
Silence fell over the office.
The man began rapidly flipping through the pages, checking the clause numbers. His expression gradually changed.
“How do you know all this?” he finally asked.
“Because I used to work as a financial analyst. I have two university degrees, and I spent several years reviewing deals like this.”
“Then why are you working as a courier?”
She was silent for a moment.
“Because the company I worked for closed down. Then my mother became ill, and I had to take care of her. I lost my job, spent almost all my savings, and kept getting rejected at interviews because of the long gap in my employment. I needed money, so I took a job where I could start immediately.”
The billionaire lowered his eyes to her worn shoes.
At that moment, the chief legal officer rushed into the office.
Without a word, the billionaire handed him the contract and pointed to the pages the delivery woman had mentioned.
The lawyer began reading. After a few minutes, his face went pale.
“Sir, she’s right. If you had signed these documents today, we could have lost an enormous amount of money.”
“How could you have missed this?” the billionaire shouted.
“I don’t understand how this happened. We reviewed the contract several times.”
The young woman looked at the lawyer and quietly added:
“Perhaps you should investigate not only the contract, but also the person who prepared its final version. These terms are far too favorable to the seller to be an accidental mistake.”
The billionaire slowly turned toward her.
Now he was looking at the young woman in an entirely different way.
“Wait. You said you used to work as a financial analyst. Could you review the rest of the documents?”
“I could, but not for free,” she replied calmly. “And before we begin, there’s something I’d like to hear from you.”
“What?”
“An apology. For calling me a stupid, uneducated servant just because I brought you lunch.”
The billionaire remained silent for a few seconds, then rose from his chair.
“Please forgive me. I behaved appallingly.”
The young woman nodded, but did not smile.
