“When you’re alone, you’ll immediately realize that absolutely no one needs you except me!” my husband declared after I found out about his affair. He demonstratively packed his suitcase and announced that he was leaving for an entire week so I would have time to realize just how wrong I had been 😧

My husband had already been packing his things for almost an hour, deliberately slamming the wardrobe doors and throwing clothes onto the bed so I could hear every move he made.

A huge blue suitcase stood in the middle of the hallway, while he kept glancing toward the kitchen from time to time, waiting for me to finally run to him and start begging him to stay.

Just two days earlier, I had accidentally seen messages with another woman on his phone. They had been seeing each other for several months, and when I demanded an explanation, my husband did not even try to apologize.

Instead, he said that everything was my fault.

— Have you looked at yourself in the mirror lately? You’re always tired, your hair is tied up any old way, and you walk around the house in old clothes. At least you used to try to look beautiful for me, but now? Do you think a man enjoys seeing a wife like that every single day?

At the time, I had no idea what to say.

Over the past few years, I really had almost stopped paying attention to myself. I worked, took care of the house, cooked, did the laundry, and tried to do everything possible to make my husband comfortable. Even when I was exhausted, I still got up before him to make breakfast.

And apparently, all that time, he had been comparing me to his young mistress.

That evening, my husband decided to teach me a final lesson.

— I’m leaving for a week. I’ll live somewhere else, and meanwhile you can think carefully about your behavior. When you’re alone, you’ll immediately realize that absolutely no one needs you except me! I’ll come back in seven days, and then we’ll see whether you still deserve another chance.

I calmly looked at his suitcase and replied:

— Fine. Just don’t lose your keys.

My husband had clearly expected a different reaction. He stood in the hallway for several more minutes, telling me how difficult life would be for me without him, and then he slammed the front door shut.

He thought he was punishing me, but seven days later, when he returned home, I did something that left him completely horrified. He definitely never expected that kind of revenge from me 😨😱 I told the rest of my story in the first comment 👇👇

For the first time in many years, the apartment became truly quiet.

At first, I really wanted to cry, but then I walked over to the mirror and stared at my reflection for a long time.

I was forty-eight years old, and suddenly I realized that I could not even remember the last time I had bought something purely for myself.

The next morning, I booked appointments with a hairdresser, a beautician, and a manicurist. After work, I went to a shopping mall and, instead of buying my usual groceries, I bought myself a beautiful dress, shoes, and several things I had always been reluctant to spend money on before.

That evening, while going through old photographs, I unexpectedly came across a picture of a man.

Once, we had been very close friends. He had courted me even before I met my future husband, but back then I chose someone else. Later, we occasionally exchanged messages, and I knew perfectly well that he still had feelings for me. At the same time, throughout all the years of my marriage, he had never allowed himself to cross any boundaries.

I stared at his number for a long time and then finally called him.

— Hi. You once told me that I could turn to you at any time. Does that offer still stand?

He recognized my voice immediately.

That evening, we talked for almost three hours, and the next day we met at a small café.

For the first time in a long while, I was sitting across from a man who listened to me attentively, gave me compliments, and expected nothing in return.

We began seeing each other every day. He brought me flowers, invited me out for walks, and kept saying that I had become even more beautiful than I had been when I was young.

I did not promise him anything, but little by little, being around him reminded me of who I had been before marriage.

Meanwhile, my husband kept sending me short messages.

“So, have you thought about it?”

“I hope you’ve realized your mistake.”

On the sixth day, he wrote that he would be coming back the next day and that he expected a proper dinner from me.

I replied that I would definitely be home.

The following evening, at around seven o’clock, the doorbell rang.

I was standing in the hallway in my new dress, with my hair neatly styled and light makeup on. Beside me stood my old friend, who was helping me pack the last of my things.

I smiled, linked my arm through his, and opened the door.

My husband was standing on the doorstep with that same blue suitcase.

When he saw me, at first he was completely taken aback. His gaze slowly moved over my face, my hair, my dress, and then stopped on the man’s hand wrapped around my waist.

— Who is this? — he finally managed to say.

— Remember when you said that no one needed me except you? I decided to find out whether that was really true.

— Have you completely lost your mind? I’m your husband!

— And I’m your wife, the one you cheated on for several months. For some reason, you didn’t remember that back then.

My husband tried to walk inside, but suddenly noticed two large suitcases near the door.

— And what are those?

— My things. I’m moving out. And the divorce papers are on the kitchen table. You can read them when you calm down a little.

He turned pale and, for the first time in our entire life together, started begging me not to rush into a decision. He said he had made a mistake, that his mistress meant nothing to him, and that you could not erase so many years of marriage in just one week.
