In February 2002, Jake and Erin welcomed two daughters, Kendra and Malia, whose birth brought a mix of emotions as it turned out they were Siamese twins.
Until the age of 4, Kendra and Malia shared a single body, but their parents ultimately decided to separate them to give them the chance to live independently.
Although they had the opportunity to live apart, they choose to stay together. They have obtained their driver’s licenses and have become excellent drivers. They have tens of thousands of fans.
The operation to separate the sisters was one of the most complex of its kind. It involved a multidisciplinary team of specialized doctors, particularly surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses, who worked for more than 24 hours to complete the separation. The procedure was regarded as a success, allowing the girls to lead more independent lives.
After the separation, Kendra and Malia underwent intensive rehabilitation to adapt to their new way of life. They worked with physiotherapists to develop their muscle strength and coordination. Their recovery was facilitated by the constant support of their parents and medical team.
