Sadie, a thirteen-year-old mix of Border Collie, Dalmatian, and German Shepherd, was adopted by the Beaulieu family when she was only eight weeks old.
However, the sudden passing of the family’s father deeply affected her. When the rescuers stopped their attempts to revive him, Sadie lay down next to him, gently nudging his hand with her nose. Julia Beaulieu recalls this moment.
Devastated by this sudden loss, Julia wasn’t the only one struggling; Sadie, too, seemed to be going through an intense period of grief.
Every day, she watched the window, waiting for her owner to come down the driveway, as she always did.
The dog even lost nearly five kilos, having stopped eating for about ten days. Julia finally decided to bring Sadie to the funeral, hoping it would help her say goodbye to her master.
During the service, Sadie stood on her legs to look into the casket, visibly affected. She stayed close to her owner throughout the ceremony.
Jeremy May, from the company Elements Cremation, who organized the funeral, emphasized that pets are an integral part of the family and that it would be beneficial if more people included them in these moments of mourning.
