This baby has recently become well-known worldwide, though it’s not a type of fame anyone would wish for. Luna Fenner was born with a rare skin condition called nevus.
The condition needed to be addressed because it almost completely covered the girl’s face.
The 80 surgeries proposed by American doctors were financially prohibitive for Luna’s parents. Moreover, there was a risk that the area could turn cancerous, making prompt treatment essential.
Russian surgeon Pavel Popov heard about Luna’s situation and offered a more gentle treatment approach compared to what was available abroad. With the family’s agreement, they moved to Russia and spent almost two years there, undergoing a series of medical procedures.
Significantly, Luna is now free from the stain that was once nicknamed the “Batman mask.” Although her face still shows some scars, additional specialized treatments should render them almost invisible.
The girl’s mother is relieved that the worst is behind them, but she is still haunted by one incident. When she first took her child to church, another girl was present.
Upon seeing Luna, the other girl asked her mother with curiosity what was wrong with the baby. Her mother responded by calling Luna a “monster” and told her not to look at the infant.
