The Boeing 737-300, operated by Transair Senegal for Air Senegal, took off from Dakar, Senegal, heading to Bamako, Mali, with 79 passengers and 6 crew members on board.
As the plane was accelerating for takeoff, the crew aborted the maneuver due to a hydraulic issue.
The Boeing then veered left off the runway and came to a stop on soft ground. A fire broke out on the left wing, but emergency responders quickly intervened to extinguish it.
The evacuation slides were deployed, allowing all passengers and crew members to safely exit the aircraft. Eleven people sustained minor injuries.
A witness described that during the first takeoff attempt, the plane briefly raised its nose, then quickly descended before stopping. A few minutes later, a second attempt was made.
