A Canadian couple, Mandy and Ritomo, both 32 years old, turned an old school bus into a practical mobile home for a budget of just $6,000. According to The Mirror, this exclusive project was carried out entirely by their own efforts, and the final result met their expectations.
With the rising cost of living and increasing difficulties in finding housing, more and more people are opting for alternative housing solutions, such as tiny homes or refurbished vehicles.
Mandy and Ritomo decided to give new life to an old school bus, transforming it into a mobile home where they live with their dog, Oscar. Throughout the project, they shared their progress on social media.
They’ve been living in their converted bus for about three years now. The improvement process took two full years of hard work. The total cost of the project was around $25,000, with $10,000 spent on installing solar panels.
Mandy explains: “We had no prior experience in construction, and our budget was limited. We relied heavily on YouTube tutorials, sought advice from more experienced friends, and a craftsman friend helped us with the final part. My cousin, an electrician, took care of the electrical installation because we wanted to avoid any fire risks.” They made sure that their home was both functional and harmonious, choosing materials that fit within their budget.
The bus interior is set up practically, with a large kitchen, a living room with a television, a bathroom, and a bedroom with a king-size bed. They also added a piano and a bar. As for the shower, Mandy mentioned that they didn’t install an external water tank due to the harsh Canadian winters, where water can freeze. Instead, they use a propane water heater and take showers outside in the woods.
