Tomas Dean and Whitney Meyer are from Quincy, Illinois. The couple gave birth to dizygotic twins, meaning they came from two separate eggs.
The girls, Kalani and Jarani Dean, looked alike, but their skin had different tones. Jarani’s skin was brown like her father’s, while Kalani’s skin was white like her mother’s.
When they were born, their mother posted photos of the sisters on social media, and internet users were surprised by this rare genetic phenomenon.
Geneticist Jim Wilson explains that there is a one in 500 chance that couples of different races will have babies with different skin colors.
According to the specialist, there are genes that determine skin color as well as eye color. The girls’ mother believes that her daughters are a true symbol of racism.
“They look a lot alike, they just have different colors. They were born to prove that the color of human skin doesn’t matter because we are all human and have the right to live on this earth.”
Tomas says he never imagined having a daughter with eyes the color of the sky. He adds that he is so happy God gave them such adorable daughters.
