Before their daughter was born, the ginger cat named Barsik was the whole family’s favorite. He was calm, never scratched, never bit, and always stayed close to his owners. When the little girl was born, the parents were afraid at first to let him near the baby, but they quickly realized that the cat treated the child with surprising gentleness. He could lie for hours beside the crib, watching her, and when the girl grew a little older, he began coming to sleep beside her every night.

Over time, Barsik developed a strange habit. He would lie down beside the girl and gently place his front paw on her forehead or cheek. The parents did not pay much attention to it because the cat had never done anything dangerous. On the contrary, it looked very touching.

“Sometimes,” the father replied. “But we thought it was just an ordinary cold.”

“There is no cold here,” the doctor said calmly. “I want you to take the child to the hospital today for additional tests.”

“Animals sense changes in breathing and heart rhythm much earlier than humans do. Most likely, when the girl’s breathing became too weak or uneven, the cat began touching her face with his paw. The parents looked at the doctor in silence.
