A woman in her eighth month of pregnancy went for an ultrasound, but as soon as the doctor looked at the monitor, she said in a terrified voice: “You must not go back home. Leave your husband” 😳
When Laura found out she was pregnant, everything was fine.
She was twenty-nine years old, had dreamed of having a child for a long time, and her husband Victor seemed like the most caring man in the world.
The first few months passed peacefully. Her test results were good, the doctors saw no problems, and at every ultrasound Laura was told that the baby was developing normally.
But soon, something strange happened.
In her eighth month, Laura booked another ultrasound appointment. Victor wanted to go with her, but that morning he unexpectedly got a call from work.
“I won’t be able to come, my love. But call me right after you see the doctor, okay?”
Laura smiled and said everything would be fine.
At the clinic, she was greeted by Dr. Marta. She asked Laura to lie down on the examination bed, applied gel to her stomach, and turned on the machine.
At first, everything went as usual. Marta looked carefully at the screen, slowly moved the ultrasound probe across Laura’s belly, and wrote something in her medical chart. Laura tried to make out the baby on the monitor, but she could not understand anything.
Suddenly, the doctor froze. Her face turned pale.
She leaned closer to the screen, changed the settings several times, and quietly said:
“Oh my God…”
Laura’s hands immediately began to shake.
“What is it, doctor? Is something wrong with the baby?”
Marta did not answer. She looked at the monitor once more, then turned off the sound on the machine and said very quietly:
“Laura, you must not go back home. Leave your husband.”
The young woman lifted herself up in fear, resting on her elbows.
“What? Why are you saying that?”
And at that very moment, the doctor turned the monitor toward her and showed her something so terrible that the woman almost fainted from shock 😱🫣 You can find the continuation of the story in the first comment 👇👇
“I understand how this sounds,” the doctor replied. “But you need to stay in the hospital now. Do not call him. Do not answer his messages. Just trust me.”
“You have to explain what is happening!”
Marta sighed heavily.
“I will explain. But first, we need to run some tests.”
Laura was immediately taken to the ward. Her blood was drawn, she was put on an IV drip, and connected to a machine that monitored the baby’s heartbeat.
Several hours passed. Victor called again and again. At first, he sent affectionate messages, asking if everything was all right and saying that he was worried. Then the messages changed.
“Why aren’t you answering?”
“Who are you talking to there?”
“I’m coming to the hospital.”
Laura wanted to call him back, but Marta took her phone away.
“Don’t. He is doing this to you.”
Laura did not understand.
“What do you mean?”
The doctor placed the test results in front of her.
“We found a substance in your blood that is slowly poisoning your body. It does not look like an ordinary medication or food poisoning. It has been building up in your body for several weeks.”
Laura turned pale.
“But how is that possible?”
“I don’t know yet. But during the ultrasound, I saw that the baby has been receiving far too little oxygen for a long time. Not for a few hours, but for quite a while. That is why I was frightened.”
At that moment, a nurse entered the room and said that Victor was standing at the entrance to the ward. He was demanding to see his wife.
Laura closed her eyes.
“He couldn’t have done this,” she whispered. “Every evening, he made tea for me. He said it was a herbal tea to help me sleep, so I would worry less.”
Marta looked at her closely.
“Did he drink that tea with you?”
Laura thought for a moment.
“No. He always said he couldn’t drink it because it made him sleepy.”
The doctor immediately called the police.
When Victor was questioned about the tea, he smiled and said that he had bought it from an ordinary pharmacy.
The investigation showed that the herbal mixture contained a powerful substance that, in small doses, caused weakness, drowsiness, and breathing problems. If taken for a long time, it could harm both the mother and the baby.
After a few days, Laura began to feel better. The baby was saved, but the doctors decided that she would have to give birth early.
While she was lying in her hospital room, Marta came in to check her blood pressure.
“Why did you tell me to leave my husband right away?” Laura asked.
The doctor was silent for a moment, then replied:
“Because I had seen test results like these before. In another woman. But it was too late.”
Laura squeezed her hand. One month later, she gave birth to a small but healthy baby girl.
