I accidentally saw my husband and my best friend pouring something into my glass of milk, but I pretended I hadn’t noticed a thing. I acted as if I had drunk it all, then deliberately pretended to fall asleep, hoping to finally find out what they had been hiding from me so carefully. 😱
But not even in my worst nightmares could I have imagined what I was about to see and hear just a few minutes later… 😳
That evening, only our closest loved ones were gathered at our house. My husband came home early from work, and my best friend stopped by for no particular reason. We sat in the kitchen, talking, laughing, and reminiscing about funny memories, and everything seemed completely normal.
After a while, my friend suddenly said:
— How about a glass of warm milk? It’s good before bedtime.
I smiled.
— Why not?
She immediately stood up.
— Stay seated. I’ll get everything.
To my surprise, my husband stood up as well.
— I’ll help you.
For some reason, at that very moment, I was overcome by a strange feeling of unease. There was no real reason to be suspicious, but my heart suddenly started beating faster. Normally, my husband never rushed to help in the kitchen, but this time he hurried after her.
Quietly, I got up and tiptoed toward the kitchen door. It was slightly open, just a few inches.
And through that narrow gap, I saw something that made my blood run cold.
My friend pulled a small white packet out of her pocket and quickly poured its contents into one of the glasses of milk. My husband stood silently beside her, watching closely.
— Do you think it’ll work? he asked quietly.
She nodded confidently.
— Of course. The important thing is that she drinks all of it.
My stomach dropped.
I quietly stepped away from the door, trying not to make a single sound.
“What did they put in it? Why?”
The worst thoughts raced through my mind.
When they returned to the room, I acted as if I knew nothing.
My friend placed the glass in front of me.
— Drink it while it’s still warm.
I smiled as calmly as I could.
— Thank you.
I lifted the glass to my lips and pretended to drink every last drop. In reality, while they were distracted for just a second, I quietly poured almost all of the milk into a large houseplant standing beside the armchair. I left only a tiny amount in the glass so it would look empty.
About ten minutes later, I deliberately started rubbing my eyes.
— I’m getting so sleepy…
My husband immediately came over.
— Lie down and get some rest.
I lay down on the couch, closed my eyes, and began breathing slowly as if I were fast asleep.
For several minutes, the room was completely silent. Then I heard my friend’s voice.
— I think she’s asleep.
My husband replied almost in a whisper:
— Finally.
I felt my heart pounding even harder.
“Now I’ll finally find out the truth…” 😲 But not even in my worst nightmares could I have imagined what I was about to see and hear just a few minutes later… 😳 I told the second part of this story in the first comment. 👇👇
They carefully walked over to the bookshelf. I barely cracked my eyes open.
My friend pulled a small gift box tied with a silver ribbon out of her bag.
I was completely confused.
— Hurry, while she’s asleep, she said.
My husband looked nervous.
— If she wakes up too soon, the whole surprise will be ruined.
They began decorating the room. They pulled out string lights from the closet that I had long believed were lost, then arranged candles, took out beautifully printed photos of our family, and hung them on the wall.
A few minutes later, my friend took out a laptop.
— Is everyone connected?
One by one, the faces of my parents, my sister, my friends, and even my cousin, who had been living abroad for several years, appeared on the screen.
I still didn’t understand what was happening.
My husband quietly said:
— She has barely smiled for months. After everything she’s been through, she stopped enjoying life. I want her to feel today just how much we love her.
My friend smiled.
— That’s why I didn’t put medicine or sleeping pills in the milk. I only added ordinary magnesium powder with chamomile. It’s completely harmless and simply helps you relax. We were sure you’d fall asleep for at least a little while so we’d have time to get everything ready.
My husband sighed.
— I was so afraid she’d see the packet and misunderstand everything.
At that moment, I couldn’t keep pretending any longer.
I opened my eyes.
They both turned toward me at the same time and froze.
My friend was the first to break the silence.
— You… weren’t asleep?
I sat up on the couch and showed them the almost full glass I had hidden beside me.
— To be honest, I didn’t drink any of it. When I saw you putting something into my milk, I thought you were trying to hurt me.
For a few seconds, no one said a word.
Then, unexpectedly, my husband burst out laughing. My friend started laughing right after him. A minute later, all three of us were laughing together.
