The mafia boss had never understood his deaf and mute mother, but during a family dinner, a simple waitress unexpectedly understood the woman and wrote just one sentence on a piece of paper; when the man read it, he sat motionless for a few seconds, and then his face changed in shock 😳
Daniel almost never had dinner at ordinary restaurants.
He was a man whom many people in the city knew, but few dared to say his name out loud. He had expensive cars, bodyguards, and dozens of people ready to carry out any of his orders.
But that evening, only his 76-year-old mother, Margaret, was beside him.
The woman had been unable to hear or speak since childhood. She communicated with sign language, but Daniel had never learned to truly understand her.
When he was little, his father was always there. He knew sign language and explained to his son what his mother wanted. Later, assistants and interpreters appeared.
Daniel himself kept putting off learning. First school, then work, then his father’s business affairs. It seemed to him that there was still plenty of time.
Seven years had already passed since his father’s death, and only then did Daniel realize how far he had grown from his own mother.
That evening, he had deliberately canceled all his meetings and brought Margaret to her favorite restaurant. At first, everything went calmly. They had dinner, Daniel told his mother about work, and the woman smiled and nodded from time to time.
But suddenly, Margaret put her fork on the table and began making gestures with her hands.
Daniel frowned.
— Mom, slower. I don’t understand.
She repeated the gestures. First, she pointed at her son, then at herself, and then gestured several times toward the door.
— Do you want to go home?
Margaret shook her head. She pointed at Daniel again, then pressed her palms together and made several more signs.
— Money? Do you need money?
The woman shook her head sharply. Desperation appeared on her face. She tried to explain again and again, but her son misunderstood every time.
After a few minutes, Margaret’s eyes filled with tears. Daniel was at a loss.
He could solve in a few minutes a problem that kept other people awake at night for weeks, but now he could not understand the person closest to him.
— Mom, please don’t cry. I’ll call an interpreter.
Margaret grabbed his hand and began signing again.
At that moment, a young waitress named Anna stopped beside their table.
She watched the woman for a few seconds, then carefully said:
— Excuse me, sir.
Daniel looked up at her.
— What?
— I think I understand your mother.
The man froze.
— Do you know sign language?
— Yes. My younger sister has been unable to hear since birth.
Margaret looked at the young woman and immediately began signing quickly to her.
Anna followed every movement attentively. At first, her face was calm. Then her smile disappeared. She asked Margaret something in sign language. The elderly woman nodded.
Daniel felt uneasy.
— What did she say?
But the waitress did not answer.
She took a small notebook from her pocket, tore out a sheet, and wrote only one sentence on it.
Then she placed the paper in front of the man. The millionaire quickly read what was written on the sheet, and his eyes immediately widened in horror 😱😳 You can find the continuation of the story in the first comment 👇👇
Daniel read: “Your father did not die of natural causes. I saw who replaced his medication.”
The man did not even move for several seconds.
— What?..
He looked at his mother. Margaret was crying.
Daniel abruptly turned to the waitress.
— Ask her who it was.
Anna began translating. Margaret answered almost immediately. But after the next signs, the young woman turned pale.
— She says it was the person your father trusted more than anyone else. His younger brother.
Daniel slowly leaned back in his chair.
After his father’s death, his uncle had become one of the people closest to him. It was his uncle who had helped Daniel take control of the family business.
But the most terrible thing came to light afterward.
Margaret had been trying to tell her son about it for all those seven years.
Right after her husband’s death, she had shown Daniel the same signs over and over, but he thought his mother was simply struggling deeply with the loss.
Later, the woman asked for an interpreter several times, but each time the uncle convinced his nephew that his mother was becoming forgetful and that there was no need to upset her with questions.
Daniel sat silently. For the first time, he understood that the truth had been beside him all that time. He simply could not hear it.
The next day, the man did not do anything against his uncle on his own. He gave the information to his lawyer, and then the police secured a reopening of the investigation into his father’s death.
