Recently, Oprah Winfrey’s spokesperson announced on Instagram that she would be appearing live on CBS Mornings to share her latest book recommendation. Unfortunately, the famous host contracted a stomach virus this weekend.
Gayle King stepped in to explain her absence. “Ms. Winfrey is recovering from a stomach virus and has received intravenous care due to dehydration, according to her doctor’s advice,” a representative for Winfrey stated to CNN on Tuesday.
“She is resting and feeling better every day.” In a video shared on Gayle King’s Instagram page, Winfrey explained to her best friend and journalist that she had difficulty retaining water, which ultimately led her to the hospital. King reassured viewers that Winfrey “will be okay” following this health scare. “I hope she doesn’t mind me sharing this detail,” she added.
In a joint interview with the New York Times in January, Winfrey and King exchanged compliments and discussed the reasons for their strong friendship. “She is a brutally honest woman who tells the truth, even when it might be hard to hear,” King commented about Winfrey. “[We] really value each other.”
In January, Winfrey showed that she was still in excellent shape despite being 70 years old. In a video posted on Instagram, the media icon was seen running on the beach with her dog and a friend. In the caption, she described health as the greatest gift and thanked those who had sent her birthday wishes.
