On June 20, five-year-old Luna Fenner successfully underwent cosmetic surgery abroad. Known online as “the Batman mask girl” due to a prominent birthmark on her face, Luna had previously undergone several surgeries to remove most of the mark, but some scars remained.
Her mother faced numerous obstacles in obtaining a visa but ultimately succeeded in taking Luna for this essential reconstructive surgery.
Before the operation, Luna’s mother, Carol Fenner, wrote on her blog: “Tomorrow is an important day: it’s Luna’s first cosmetic surgery. We want to correct the opening of her eyes, which still close when she sleeps, and improve the flexibility of her skin. Luna is excited and ready for the operation. Keep us in your prayers.”
Luna underwent her first major surgery at six months old. Her family chose this procedure because doctors in the United States had recommended a long series of operations. The initial treatment, which included various therapies and interventions, cost about $200,000, which is less than in the United States.
