Maria, aged 3, fought a fierce battle against a serious illness and has just won “Congratulations”

All of Greece helped Maria, a three-year-old girl from Ouranoupoli, in her difficult ordeal with cancer, which required a stay in France for emergency treatment.

Suffering from metastatic neuroblastoma, Maria suffered from sudden vomiting last summer, her mouth swelling more and more each day. Her parents took her to the clinic for further examinations. After fifteen days in the hospital, the diagnosis was made: metastatic cervico-mediastinal neuroblastoma, also affecting the tibia and parietal bones.

Chemistry made it possible to treat bone cancer, but the tumor in the chest and neck area held its own. Surgery was necessary, but it was too risky to be performed in Greece. Maria was therefore referred to a specialized Parisian clinic.

Even though the family’s insurance covered surgical and hospital costs, Maria’s parents could not cover travel, accommodation and living expenses in France. Maria’s fight was long and hard, but she emerged victorious thanks to the NGO Act of Love, which paid for the intervention.

She returned victorious to Greece.

She is currently benefiting from family warmth. Soon, she will have to undergo examinations to determine the possibility of a bone marrow transplant in Athens.

We very much hope that these tests give the right results and that this story becomes nothing more than a simple memory.
