Two escaped criminals came across a lonely elderly woman near an old house and decided to rob her before disappearing into the forest again. But soon, someone appeared from behind the trees whom the men least expected to see. Within seconds, both of them were running away, no longer even thinking about the robbery 😰
The prison escape happened in the middle of the night. Two inmates managed to get over the fence and almost immediately disappeared into the forest. They deliberately stayed away from the roads because they knew the police would block the nearby highways and search all the surrounding towns and villages.
For the first few hours, the men were convinced that their plan had worked. But by morning, the situation had changed. They were soaked, freezing, and had barely eaten anything. Their small backpack contained only a bottle of water, a few old belongings, and very little cash.
To get out of the area, they needed a car, food, and money.
Toward evening, the forest began to thin out, and a small wooden house appeared ahead. It stood completely alone, far away from any other buildings. An elderly woman wearing a dark headscarf was sitting near the porch. She rested both hands on her cane and calmly stared toward the forest.
One of the fugitives stopped.
“Looks like we finally got lucky today. An old woman like her must have some cash and something to eat.”
“The important thing is that she doesn’t start screaming,” the other replied. “We’ll quickly take what we need and leave.”
They stepped out from behind the trees and headed toward the house.
The woman noticed the strangers only when they were already standing near the porch.
“Good evening,” she said cautiously.
“It’ll be a good evening for you if you do what we tell you,” one of the men replied. “We need money and the car keys.”
The elderly woman frowned.
“I don’t have a car, and I hardly keep any money here.”
The man smirked and stepped closer.
“We’ve already walked far too much today, Grandma. So don’t make us search for it ourselves.”
The second fugitive headed toward the door, but the woman suddenly stepped in front of him. She looked small and fragile beside the huge men, but she clearly had no intention of moving aside.
“You’re not going into this house.”
The criminal looked at her in surprise and then laughed.
“Do you really think you’re going to stop us with that cane?”
He roughly pushed the woman aside with one hand. She stumbled but managed to stay on her feet.
“I’m asking you for the last time,” she said quietly. “Just leave.”
“And what if we stay?” the man asked, stepping so close that he was almost face-to-face with her.
The woman looked somewhere behind him. The fugitive was about to laugh when suddenly a strange, deep sound came from the forest.
Both men turned their heads at the same time.

A fully grown brown bear emerged from the forest.
It stopped about twenty meters from the house and stared carefully at the people.
One of the criminals slowly stepped backward.
“Don’t move. Maybe it’ll go away.”
But the bear had no intention of leaving.
It headed straight toward the porch.
The fugitives began backing away, while the elderly woman, on the contrary, remained perfectly calm where she stood.
When the animal came closer, the woman reached out her hand.
“Where have you been, Misha? I haven’t seen you since this morning.”
The men exchanged stunned glances.
The enormous bear approached the elderly woman and unexpectedly lowered its head beside her hand. The woman calmly scratched it behind the ear.
“You know him?” one of the fugitives barely managed to say.
“For many years,” she replied. “I once found him near the river when he was still a cub. He was injured and hadn’t eaten anything for several days. I took him into the barn, nursed him back to health, and released him in the spring. Since then, he comes back from time to time.”
One of the men thought the animal was distracted by the woman and cautiously moved toward the door.
But the bear immediately raised its head.
It let out such a powerful roar that the man froze in place.
The animal took several quick steps forward.

“Let’s get out of here!” the second man shouted.
The fugitives rushed into the forest. One of them dropped his backpack near the porch but didn’t even try to go back for it. They ran between the trees, fell onto the wet ground, got back up, and kept running while hearing branches snapping behind them.
A few minutes later, the men spotted lights ahead and ran out onto a small road.
Only then did they realize they had made another mistake.
Several police cars were parked on the road. Officers were searching the area after receiving the report about the prison escape.
When the criminals saw the armed police officers, they stopped abruptly. They absolutely refused to go back into the forest. One man immediately raised his hands, while the other almost collapsed to his knees from exhaustion.
Later, the police officers came to the elderly woman’s house to return the belongings found with the fugitives and make sure she hadn’t been hurt.
One officer stared in surprise at the enormous tracks near the porch.
“They claim a bear was chasing them.”
The elderly woman smiled.
“Those men have been through a lot today. Perhaps they imagined something.”
The officer looked at the tracks once more but decided not to argue.
After the police cars had left, the woman carried an old metal bowl onto the porch and placed several apples inside it.
A little while later, the bushes near the house began to move.
The enormous bear emerged from the forest once again, calmly walked up to the porch, and lay down beside the elderly woman.
