A 12-year-old girl came to a job interview to become an accountant, but the adults started laughing at her; however, what the girl did during the interview left everyone in shock 😨

For an entire week, they had been unable to find a suitable person for the position of chief accountant. The salary was high and the company was large, so there was no shortage of applicants, but almost every interview ended the same way.

Some candidates spoke excellently about their experience but got confused by simple calculations. Others brought enormous résumés but could not solve the practical task assigned by the financial director.

That day, the company’s executives had gathered once again in a large office. Sitting around a long table were Director Michael, Financial Director David, and several department heads.

— We only have four candidates left, David said. If we do not find anyone today either, we will have to start the search all over again.

But at that very moment, something strange happened.

The office doors opened, and an ordinary schoolgirl of about twelve walked in. She was wearing a school uniform and carrying a large backpack.

The girl calmly approached the receptionist’s desk.

— Hello. I am here for an interview.

At first, the secretary, Sarah, thought she had misheard.

— What interview?

— For the position of chief accountant.

Sarah looked at her silently for a few seconds, then smiled involuntarily.

— Little girl, you are far too young. Go home. Where are your parents?

— I came alone.

— Adults work here.

But the schoolgirl had no intention of leaving.

— Where is the interview taking place? I want to try.

Sarah was about to call security, but then decided it would be easier to show the girl the office. The adults there would explain to her themselves why all of this was impossible.

— Fine. Last door on the right.

— Thank you.

The girl adjusted her backpack and walked down the corridor.

When she opened the door to the conference room, all conversation stopped immediately.

Ten serious people in expensive suits looked at the schoolgirl at the same time.

One of the department heads was the first to laugh.

— I think you came through the wrong door.

— This is not a place for children, another added.

The girl walked over to the table.

— My name is Emily. I came for an interview for the accountant position.

This time, almost everyone laughed.

— An accountant? David repeated. Can you even count to one hundred?

— Yes, I can.

— At your age, they are still teaching fractions at school. What do you know about accounting?

The adults were simply mocking her, forgetting that there was only a child standing before them, but what the girl did left everyone in shock. 🤯🫣 You can find the continuation of the story in the first comment 👇👇

— Then give me the same task you give the other candidates.

The room grew a little quieter.

Michael looked carefully at the girl.

He became curious to see how far she was willing to go.

— All right, he said. David, give her the final task.

The financial director smirked and placed several sheets of paper in front of Emily.

— These are the records of a small company for one quarter. Income, expenses, purchases, returns, salaries, and taxes. There are deliberate errors in them. You need to find them and calculate the final tax amount.

— How much time do I have?

The man looked at his watch.

— We gave the adult candidates forty minutes.

— Twenty will be enough for me.

A quiet laugh went through the room again.

Emily took off her backpack and pulled out a simple calculator, a pencil, and several blank sheets of paper.

For the first few minutes, no one paid attention to her anymore. The executives spoke quietly among themselves, waiting for the girl to give up.

But Emily did not give up.

She quickly wrote down numbers, crossed things out, returned to previous pages, and calculated again.

After seven minutes, her expression suddenly changed.

She picked up one of the documents.

— There is an error here.

David smiled.

— There are many errors. That is the point of the task.

— No. I am not talking about the mistakes you deliberately put there.

The room fell silent.

Emily turned the sheet toward them.

— The same purchase has been recorded twice here. Because of this, the company’s expenses have been overstated by forty-eight thousand.

The smile disappeared from the financial director’s face.

He quickly took the document.

— Continue.

Emily opened the next sheet.

— And here, the VAT on a returned item has been calculated incorrectly. If this line is corrected, the final amount changes too.

No one was laughing anymore.

David pulled his laptop closer and began checking the figures.

A few more minutes passed.

— I’m done, Emily said.

— Already? Michael asked in surprise.

— Yes.

She handed her calculations to David.

The financial director carefully looked over the first page, then the second.

His face grew more and more serious.

— Incredible…

— What? Michael asked.

— She solved the task correctly.

But Emily suddenly shook her head.

— No.

Everyone looked at her.

— What do you mean, “no”? David asked.

— Your task was prepared incorrectly.

Silence filled the office.

The girl walked to the board and wrote down several numbers.

— At first, I thought it was another mistake placed there deliberately. But then I noticed that these figures were taken from your company’s real report.

Michael looked sharply at the financial director.

Emily continued:

— If you compare the purchases, returns, and calculated tax, it turns out that the company has been overpaying taxes for several months.

— How much? the director asked quietly.

The girl looked at her calculations again.

— If the same error is present in the previous quarters, it could amount to hundreds of thousands.

Now no one was even smiling.

David quickly opened the company’s real reports and began checking the old documents.

A few minutes later, he slowly leaned back in his chair.

The girl was right.

The error really existed.

And it had not been noticed by the accounting staff, the auditors, or several experienced candidates who had completed the same task.

Michael looked at the twelve-year-old schoolgirl whom the entire office had been laughing at only twenty minutes earlier.

— Emily, where did you learn all of this?

The girl calmly put the calculator back into her backpack.

— My mother is an accountant. For the past two years, she has been working very hard in the evenings, and I sit next to her and learn. Then I started reading her books and taking courses on my own.

Michael was silent for a while.

— But I cannot hire a twelve-year-old child as chief accountant.

— I know, Emily replied.

Everyone looked at her in surprise.

— Then why did you come?

The girl took another folder out of her backpack and placed it in front of the director.

— Because my mother also sent you her résumé. But you did not even invite her for an interview because she does not have a degree from a prestigious university. I got all this knowledge from her.

Once again, absolute silence filled the office.
