The bride ran away from her wedding after learning a terrible truth about her future husband, but he caught up with her and ordered his men to throw the young woman into a cave filled with venomous snakes. There was less than an hour left before the wedding when Emma accidentally overheard her fiancé’s conversation.
She had already put on her wedding dress and was preparing to join the guests. Music filled the large country house, waiters were setting the tables, and expensive cars were parked near the entrance.
Her fiancé, Mark, belonged to one of the most influential families in the city. Many people were afraid of him, but he had always been attentive and calm around Emma.
The young woman believed she knew the man she was about to marry well.
As Emma left the room, she heard voices behind the office door. At first, she wanted to keep walking, but then she suddenly heard her father’s name.
“After the wedding, the land will officially belong to the family,” Mark said. “The important thing is that Emma doesn’t find out anything too soon.”
“And what if she does?” another man asked.
“Then she’ll meet the same fate as her father.”
Emma’s hands began to tremble.
Her father had died two years earlier. The police had said that he was killed in a car accident, but now the young woman realized that it might not have been an accident at all.
She carefully opened the door and saw a folder lying on the desk. On top were documents bearing her father’s signature, and beside them was a photograph of his wrecked car.
Emma grabbed the folder and ran toward the back exit.
She had not even made it halfway across the garden when Mark spotted her through the window. Seconds later, four men ran after her.
Emma reached the road and disappeared among the trees. Her long dress caught on the branches, and her shoes sank into the wet ground, but she kept running.
Heavy rain began to fall.

He took the folder from her and calmly looked at her dirty wedding dress.
“I gave you a beautiful life,” he said coldly. “All you had to do was become my wife and ask no questions.”
“Did you kill my father?” Emma asked.
Mark did not answer. He simply ordered his men to take her to the old cave in the forest.
The local residents tried to stay away from that place. The cave was damp and dark, and dozens of venomous snakes lived among the rocks.
Mark knew about them.
The men threw Emma to the ground right beside the entrance. She tried to get up but froze when she saw a large black snake in front of her.
Hissing echoed all around her.
“By morning, there will be nothing left to find here,” Mark said before ordering his men to leave.

Emma was left alone.

At that moment, Emma noticed a stream of cold air coming from a narrow crack between the rocks. That meant the cave continued beyond the wall and there might be another exit.
But to reach it, she would have to get past the snakes.
Then the young woman remembered her father’s words. When she was a child, he often took her into the mountains and taught her how to behave when encountering a snake.
He always said that most snakes do not attack without a reason. Sudden movements and panic are more dangerous than the animal itself.
Emma removed her long veil and carefully wrapped it around her hands. Then she tore a thick piece of fabric from the bottom of her dress and slowly placed it on the ground a short distance away.
One of the snakes crawled toward the fabric.
The young woman waited until a narrow path was clear and then began moving very slowly toward the crack. She did not stand up and barely raised her arms, trying not to frighten the snakes.
When Emma reached the wall, she discovered a small opening. Behind it was an old underground tunnel through which water had once flowed.
She crawled through it for nearly an hour until she saw light ahead.
When Emma emerged on the other side of the mountain, she saw an old road. At that very moment, a forest ranger’s vehicle was passing by. The ranger noticed the young woman in the dirty wedding dress and immediately stopped.
Once inside the vehicle, Emma removed a small memory card from her corset. Before escaping, she had managed to take it from the folder and hide it beneath her dress.
The card contained recordings of Mark’s conversations, documents concerning illegal deals, and a video proving that Emma’s father had been murdered on his orders.
In the morning, Mark returned to the cave to make sure the young woman was dead. But inside, he found only the torn veil and a trail leading toward the secret tunnel.
