Captain Kate was the youngest commander in the unit. She was only twenty-seven years old, and not all the soldiers liked taking orders from a woman. Three servicemen in particular had long believed that one of them should have been given the commander’s position. After every reprimand, they would silently exchange glances, growing increasingly angry as they patiently waited for the moment when they could take revenge on her.
Kate noticed their cold attitude but did not pay much attention to it. She was certain that discipline would eventually prevail and that personal resentment would be left in the past. She continued to do her job calmly and demanded the same strict obedience to orders from everyone.
A few days later, the unit was sent on a difficult combat mission. The soldiers boarded a military helicopter together with the captain. The flight went smoothly until Kate moved closer to the open side door to check the route and discuss the landing site with the pilot.

Kate did not die. A few days before the mission, she had insisted that the entire command staff use new emergency suits equipped with a compact automatic rescue system that the army had recently begun testing. When the sensors detected a free fall from a great height, the emergency system activated automatically.
A small stabilizing parachute immediately opened above her, followed moments later by the main canopy. Kate landed safely not far from the operation area and immediately contacted headquarters using her emergency radio.
The military investigation began that same day. Investigators quickly obtained the footage from the camera installed inside the helicopter. The recording clearly showed what had actually happened.
A few days later, the three soldiers were arrested in front of the entire unit. They tried to justify themselves and continued repeating the story about an accidental fall, but the video footage completely exposed their lies.
The military tribunal found them guilty of attempting to murder their commander. All three were stripped of their ranks, discharged from the army, and sentenced to lengthy prison terms.
A few months later, Captain Kate returned to her unit. For the other soldiers, this story became a reminder that even the most carefully planned crime is eventually uncovered and that betraying your fellow servicemen always has consequences.
