I refused to give up my seat for an elderly couple – a minute later they called the conductor and regretted it deeply 😱😱

I knew that booking a window seat for a 12-hour daytime train journey was a real luxury for me. But I thought: if I’m going to spend half the day traveling, I at least want some comfort. I paid extra for a specific window seat in a quiet car, so I could look at the scenery, lean against the wall, and calmly read or nap.

When I boarded and sat down, I felt a pleasant sense of anticipation — a long journey ahead. As I settled in, an elderly couple approached me. The woman, around seventy, smiled kindly and leaned toward me:

— Excuse me, would you mind switching seats? My husband would love to sit by the window. Our seats are across the aisle, but he enjoys watching the landscape.

I looked at the man. He didn’t say a word — just looked at me.

I’m not heartless. I completely understand how nice it is to sit by the window. But I wasn’t just sitting there for no reason — I had paid for that seat. I really didn’t want to move, so I politely said:

— I’m sorry, but I’d really prefer to stay in my seat. I specifically booked it.

The woman lowered her eyes a bit and her smile faded.

I felt people looking at me — like I had done something wrong. Others in the carriage started whispering. A few seconds later, the woman called the conductor.

— She wouldn’t switch seats, — the woman said, nodding toward me.

The conductor looked at me, then at the couple, and said sharply… Continued in the first comment 👇👇

— Window seats must be booked separately. There’s nothing I can do. You didn’t pay for it – you should’ve thought of that earlier, instead of trying to guilt someone into switching. The young lady is not obligated to move.

The couple didn’t say another word, and the conductor walked away. I felt a strange mix of guilt and irritation. I hadn’t done anything wrong — I just didn’t give up something that rightfully belonged to me. Why should I feel guilty for that?

An hour later, I noticed the man was looking at his phone, and the woman was reading. They didn’t look my way again.
