He Converts His Van into a Mobile Laundry to Wash the Clothes of People Living on the Streets for Free

Have you ever had an idea capable of changing the course of things? This happened to Lucas and Nicholas, two twenty-year-olds from Brisbane, on a particularly sunny afternoon.

While sitting in a public park, they observed passersby and discovered a phenomenon often overlooked: the lack of hygiene among the homeless.

They saw Mick, a homeless man, with dirty clothes and a desire to clean them. This made them aware of the situation.

Determined to make a difference, Lucas and Nicholas converted an old white van into a mobile laundry. They acquired a portable generator and, thanks to significant donations, were able to get two washing machines and dryers capable of washing twenty kilos of clothes per hour.

In July 2014, the “Orange Sky” laundry service was created. Their van would travel the streets of Brisbane five days a week, offering the homeless a place to have their clothes washed and dried.

Their enthusiasm and motivation were evident, and every day they worked to bring this project closer to Lucas and Nicholas’s goal. Their aim?

To expand the Orange Sky laundry service across Australia. Is it ambitious? Absolutely. Is it possible? Definitely. Their enthusiasm and motivation were clear, and every day they worked to make this project a reality.

They were convinced that each wash, each smile, and each story they shared could make a difference.
