The doctor was already preparing to perform an autopsy on the body of a young nun who had passed away after a long and serious illness. But the moment he looked at the cross around her neck, he fled the morgue in horror… 😨
Early in the morning, a vehicle arrived at the city morgue carrying the body of the young nun. Several sisters from the convent came with her. Their eyes were red from crying, and they could barely hold back their tears. According to them, the young woman had been seriously ill for many months. With each passing day, she grew weaker, almost stopped getting out of bed, rapidly lost her strength, and constantly complained of severe exhaustion.
None of the doctors had been able to understand what was really happening to her. She underwent numerous examinations, had countless tests done, and stayed in several different hospitals, but each time the doctors could only shrug helplessly. Some suspected a rare blood disease, others spoke of serious damage to her internal organs, while others admitted that they had never seen symptoms like these before.
Despite the treatment, her condition continued to worsen. During the final weeks of her life, she barely left her room, rarely spoke, and spent most of her time praying. The other nuns cared for her until the very end, hoping that one day she would get better, but early one morning her heart stopped beating.
After all the necessary documents had been completed, the body was taken to the morgue for the required autopsy. The experienced pathologist wanted to determine the true cause of death because her medical history seemed far too strange.
The doctor calmly prepared his instruments, put on his gloves, and approached the table. He carefully unfastened the upper part of the nun’s clothing, removed the wide belt tied around her habit, and then noticed a small metal cross hanging from a chain. Almost all nuns wear crosses like this.
He carefully took the cross in his hand to remove it before beginning the autopsy.
But only a few seconds later, his face suddenly turned pale with terror, and the doctor ran out of the morgue in panic. 😱😲 You can find the second part of this story in the first comment. 👇
On the surface of the metal, he noticed strange yellowish-green stains. Then he remembered a photograph from an old forensic medicine textbook that he had seen while studying at university. This kind of coating sometimes appeared on old objects made from materials containing high levels of radioactive elements.
At first, the doctor thought he must be mistaken. He quickly took out a special dosimeter used at the hospital to examine suspicious objects. The device was nearby because it was sometimes used after industrial accidents.
When he brought the dosimeter close to the cross, a loud, continuous warning signal sounded.
The needle immediately rose to a dangerous level.
At that moment, the doctor felt an icy chill run down his spine. He abruptly put the cross back, practically leaped out of the morgue, and immediately ordered everyone to stay out of the room. A few minutes later, radiation safety specialists arrived at the hospital.
After the examination, it became clear that the cross had indeed been made from a dangerous radioactive metal. Because of prolonged daily contact, the young nun’s body had slowly been exposed to large doses of radiation. That was why her condition had worsened month after month, while the doctors had been unable to understand the cause of her mysterious illness.
But the true horror was still to come.
During a conversation with the convent’s mother superior, the doctor asked whether only the deceased nun had worn such a cross.
The answer made everyone fall silent.
The mother superior calmly explained that all the sisters in the convent had received exactly the same crosses many years earlier. They had been specially made for the church and given to each nun on the day she took her vows. No one could have imagined that such ordinary-looking metal could be deadly.
Without wasting a single minute, the doctor insisted that all the crosses be examined immediately. The specialists inspected the convent and confirmed their worst fears. Every one of those crosses emitted a dangerous level of radiation.
That same day, all the crosses were immediately confiscated, and the nuns were sent for complete medical examinations. Many of them were already showing the first signs of radiation damage, although the women themselves had believed that they were simply overworked or feeling unwell because of their age.
Fortunately, because the danger was discovered in time, most of them were able to begin treatment before the damage became irreversible. For several months, the doctors monitored their condition, provided the necessary therapy, and gradually helped their bodies recover.
