A mother with her child got on the subway, but no one gave up their seat for her — then something unexpected happened

The subway was buzzing with indifferent faces. The young mother, holding her baby, barely squeezed into the crowded car. 😲😲 The baby was peacefully sleeping, pressed against her chest, while the woman struggled to keep her balance — holding the baby with one hand and unable to grasp a handrail with the other.

She silently looked around the car. Young men and women sat with their eyes down on their phones; some pretended not to notice her at all. Someone glanced sideways — then looked away again. The woman swayed with the train, tensing her arms more and more to stay steady. Someone sitting gave her a quick glance but looked away again.

But then an elderly woman, about seventy years old, did something unexpected, after which all the passengers looked at her with respect, blushing with shame. Continued in the first comment 👇 👇

— Dear, — the elderly woman said loudly and clearly, — come here, I’ll give you my seat.

Everyone turned around. The woman struggled to stand, leaning on a cane. Her hair was neatly tied in a bun, wrinkles and fatigue showed on her face. She gestured to the young mother.

— My knees hurt, but your hands are busier. And your child is more important than my joints, — she said with a kind but firm smile.

The mother approached, confused, and whispered softly:

— Thank you so much…

And at that moment, something happened that no one expected.

One of the young men, who had been sitting with headphones on the whole time, suddenly stood up and said loudly:

— Excuse me. I’m ashamed. Please, sit down. — He gestured to his seat and turned to the elderly woman. — And you, please don’t stand. Sit down. It’s my job to give up my seat, not yours.

Silence fell.

One after another, other passengers began to stand up. Several free seats appeared immediately. Someone offered to help the mother hold her bag. The elderly woman just sighed:

— See? I thought humanity was completely lost…
